Glaucoma expert and clinical professor, USA
Throughout his long career, Murray Fingeret has improved the standards for glaucoma treatment. He is a founding member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society and president of the Optometric Glaucoma Foundation. He also sits on the editorial boards of Journal of Glaucoma, Glaucoma Today, Primary Care Optometry News, and many more.
Murray’s list of achievements and publications is long, and in 2019, he was honoured with an induction into the National Optometry Hall of Fame. He has worked hard to achieve specialised knowledge of glaucoma, educate, and build relationships to strengthen comprehensive eye care across disciplines.
His efforts have earned him several prestigious awards, including the 2013 Vincent Ellerbrock Clinician Educator Award and the 2008 Distinguished Service Award Optometric Glaucoma Society.
Since graduating with an optometry degree from New England College in 1976, he has spent over 30 years providing welfare to veterans. Until recently, he was chief of the optometry section at the New York Harbour Health Care System’s veteran administration. Today, Murray works as a clinical professor and stays active in various glaucoma and eye care communities.
